A Thousand Satisfied Pets Help Name The Entrepreneur of the Year

A Royal City pet sitting company received double honours at the recent 10th annual Visions of Excellence gala, recognizing businesses in the lower mainland. Kitty Kompany Professional Pet Sitting Services won in the Overall Service Industry category and proprietor, Kristin Schumacher, a graduate of the Douglas College Self Employment Program, was named Entrepreneur of the Year.

Schumacher has grown Kitty Kompany from a one person operation into a company with seven additional pet sitters who provide service throughout the lower mainland. More than 1000 pets in 600 households have benefited from their care in the past three and a half years. She attributes Kitty Kompany’s success to a passion for animals and their well-being, dedication to detail, and the professionalism of the company and its sitters.

“What Kitty Kompany endeavors to provide is peace of mind to the pet parents. There is nothing worse than spending a small fortune on a beautiful holiday and then worrying about your fur-kids,” said Schumacher.
The company’s memberships with national and international pet sitting organizations, the Better Business Bureau and the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce, as well as Schumacher’s volunteer work with animal rescue have contributed to the success of this award-winning company.
“We recognize that it is extremely difficult for people to make the decision to hand over, not only the care of their pets, but also the keys to their homes to a complete stranger. Our memberships in well-known organizations are reassuring and make it a little easier for our clients to take that initial step.”

As for the Entrepreneur of the Year award, Schumacher sees it as a confirmation of Kitty Kompany’s professional stature.

“ We’re proud of the service we provide and the appreciation we continually receive from our clients and their pets. Winning such a prestigious award validates more than Kitty Kompany. It also validates the pet sitting industry.”
